Route description

Leg 1:     Start of leg GR: SN654892
At the green in Talybont, with your back to the Black Lion hostelry, you will see a lane across the busy A487. Carefully cross the road and walk up the lane keeping left as you pass another lane to your right. Pass the impressive Victorian Coertmor property on your right. Continue until you come to metal gates at the edge of the woodland.

Leg 2:  Leg distance 0.2 mile(s)   Start of leg GR: SN651892
Turn left after the gate and walk up the path until after around 300 yards you meet a forest road, looking like a track.

Leg 3:  Leg distance 1.0 mile(s)   Start of leg GR: SN648891
Turn left on to the forest track. Walk along the pleasant track for a mile until you arrive at a gate into a field. Whilst walking in summer look out for the American Red oak trees with large oak like leaves.

Leg 4:     Start of leg GR: SN640881
Go through the gate at the end of the woodland track and walk on for about 400 yards, across the field along a just discernible path, following it as it goes into a track through a neck of woodland, then over the next field to the Fron-goch farmhouse ruin you will see in front of you.

Leg 5:  Leg distance .2 mile(s)   Start of leg GR: SN637881
Walk around the front of the ruin and adjacent to the corner of the barn below you there is a metal pedestrian gate. Go through the gate and follow the path for 400 yards as it goes down through the woods and arrives at a footbridge over the afon Leri.

Leg 6:     Start of leg GR: SN633880
Turn left after the bridge and after a few yards, near the site office, turn right,to follow the tarmac road which leaves the caravan site. The last building on your right is the games room. Immediately after the games room turn right along a path which may be difficult to see, crossed the rudimentary footbridge and you will soon arrive at an old rustic looking kissing gate on the right hand edge of the field above you.

Leg 7:  Leg distance 0.15 mile(s)   Start of leg GR: SN632879
Turn immediately left after the wooden kissing gate. Walk something like 200 yards up the hill along the line of the fence. Near the summit of the hill you will meet a fence which crosses ahead of you. Look for a gate on your left to continue along the line of the original fence for 60 yards- but this time keeping it to your right until you get to the fence corner.

Leg 8:  Leg distance 0.17 mile(s)   Start of leg GR: SN631877
From the fence corner look for a couple of trees ahead of you denoting an old hedge that has now been grubbed out. Follow the line of the trees for 100 yards or so until you see a hedge on your right at the corner of which is a stile. Go over the stile and walk the 200 yards along the hedge to a farm gate entering onto Ln Glan-frd. (This gate was very difficult to open as of January 2021; County Council informed.)

Leg 9:  Leg distance 0.5 mile(s)   Start of leg GR: SN632874
Turn right to walk 700 yards down Ln Glanfrd, with houses adjoining it, to where it meets the B4353 road to Borth. turn left at this point and walk a further 250 yards along the road to where you see a railway crossing on your right.

Leg 10:  Leg distance 0.3 mile(s)   Start of leg GR: SN626869
Turn right to go over the railway crossing, walk 200 yards up the lane and turn right to follow the lane below the Church. Walk along the lane for another 300 yards to a hairpin bend.

Leg 11:  Leg distance 0.7 mile(s)   Start of leg GR: SN623871
AT the hairpin bend leave the tarmac lane to walk directly up the track leaving the road in front of you. Follow the track along its 700 yards length, with its impressive views. Shortly after passing the entrance track to Cilolwg farm you will arrive at a cross roads,

Leg 12:  Leg distance 0.7 mile(s)   Start of leg GR: SN616879
Turn right onto the downhill lane. Follow it down until after 700 yards it meets the Aberystwyth-Borth B4353 road near a railway bridge. It is not a busy lane but it is quite narrow in places.

Leg 13:  Leg distance 0.14 mile(s)   Start of leg GR: SN623879
With great care because of oncoming traffic, with the bridge having no pedestrian way, turn left, cross the road. walk under the bridge and follow the lane to the right, down into Dolybont for 200 yards. Just short of the humpback bridge over the Leri look for the lane going right leading to a caravan site.

Leg 14:  Leg distance 0.1 mile(s)   Start of leg GR: SN624881
Less than 100 yards along the lane to the caravan site look on the right for the well signed stile leading on to a fenced in path. Follow the path for 200 yards over a couple of stiles and finally some steps to a point to where you arrive at the path going left between a fence and an artificially shaped field edge (presumably to safeguard the property below against landslip).

Leg 15:  Leg distance 0.34 mile(s)   Start of leg GR: SN626881
Now follow the path for 600 yards keeping to traces of paths at the bottom of the field and above the hedge or trees on the steep slope down to the river. You will meet one fence crossed by a stile before arriving t the rustic kissing gate you passed on the outward route

Leg 16:  Leg distance 0.37 mile(s)   Start of leg GR: SN632879
Go through the wooden kissing gate to retrace your ooutward path through the caravan site to the footbridge over the Leri, turning right immediately after the bridge to go first along the river bank before the path winds around, ascending to the ruin of the Fron-gch farm house.

Leg 17:  Leg distance 0.2 mile(s)   Start of leg GR: SN637882
From the ruined farmhouse retrace your outward route over the first field, past the short neck of oak woodland, across the field to the boundary gate of the Allt y crib woodland. Around 160 yards along the forest track, after the gate, you will see a path into the woods as the road itself veers right

Leg 18:  Leg distance 0.9 mile(s)   Start of leg GR: SN641882
Take the path into the wood and follow it until it meets the forest road (this is a deviation to your outward route and is shortens it). Follow the forest back to the path where you joined it going out. You can recognise this point as it as opposite a length of rock face on the left of the forest road. Turn right to go down the path to the entrance gate of the woodland.

Leg 19:  Leg distance 0.28 mile(s)   Start of leg GR: SN651892
From the gate follow the track the 500 yards back to Talybont.

Leg 20:
Enjoy your refreshment at the White Lion or the Black Lion adjoining the green.
